Federico Nejrotti — Writer & cultural strategist

I'm a writer and cultural strategist based in Milan. I co-found cultural projects, I write about the internet and the forces shaping it, and I help institutions and brands turn difficult ideas into things people actually care about.

What I do now

I co-founded Ufficio Furore, a studio that designs radical culture, working with institutions, publishers and brands to build cultural projects end to end. I also curate Iceberg, an interview newsletter on technology, climate and culture. Alongside that I write, edit and translate, and I speak at conferences and panels — often, somehow, about Mark Zuckerberg.

Where I come from

Until 2018 I was editor-in-chief of Motherboard Italia, VICE's science and technology magazine, after joining as a staff writer in 2014. In 2011 I founded The Shelter, an independent magazine that covered indie games for almost a decade. The thread running through all of it is internet governance — who decides how the network works, and who pays for it.

Documentaries & podcasts

I've written and directed documentaries for Motherboard / VICE, including Venezia 2100, Virgo (on gravitational waves) and Formula Drone. I write, and sometimes host, podcasts: Anche Tu (Chora Media × Universal, on the legacy of #MeToo — written with Silvia Righini), Cantiere Cultura (Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, on how cultural projects get built — written and hosted with Ufficio Furore), and Stella Kamikaze, where I read science fiction.
